The “philosophy” of the project, its history:
The Yolk  collective was created in 1999 by Alban Darche, Jean-Louis Pommier and Sebastien Boisseau, who were later joined by Daniel Casimir and Matthieu Donarier in 2006. Five musicians who share the same involvement in a contemporary jazz style mixing detailed attention to writing with improvisational flair.
Alongside their broader European projects, the collective’s activities are also rooted locally in the Nantes region. Situated at the heart of the collective, the five share joint responsibility for all aspects of bringing their music, through both live perfor- mances and recordings, to the widest possible audience.
The Yolk  label was one of the first tools developed by the founders of the Yolk  collective as a way of carrying their music be- yond their live performances. Alban Darche, Jean-Louis Pommier and Sébastien Boisseau are also the label’s artistic co-direc- tors. Yolk  has opened its doors to a whole generation of French and European jazzmen, each with their own well-established artistic identity but all of whom place more importance on what is expressed by the group as a whole than on the ego of a frontman.
Yolkrecords with its strong visual identity, is, above all, a label for musicians, run and financed by musicians whose aim is to offer their recordings at an affordable price.
