The “philosophy” of the project, its history:
El Gallo Rojo Records is a container without stylistic labels, a union of musicians with a natural bent for experimentation and linguistic crosswising who, around a record label, exchange ideas, suggestions, and listening and performance experiences
El Gallo Rojo is also a visual project, coordinated by Massimiliano Sorrentini and Sara Meneghini, in keeping with that same art of transverse poetry which characterizes the music, so that the aspect of graphic imagery really does accompany the sound, and is not merely an accessory. The visual artists and the written/spoken word will also have their own space in the Punto Rojo, a kind of parallel collection which will gather special limited editions, hybrid forms of sound, texts and images, but also collections of photographs, comic strips, dawings, short films and narrative.
El Gallo Rojo is a collective subject who chooses independent productions and supports them through careful distribution, which passes via Internet and freely chooses its own outlets nationally.
The structure is open. We started as 8 people and right now we are 14. There are no particular condition to access the collective:
up to now, the people who requested entering were in some way close to our philosophy and related to our work.

Organisation:
El Gallo Rojo is a non-profit organization founded in Spring 2005. Our headquarters is in Verona. We started out as 8 people and without dividing tasks - so the staff was actually composed by three people: president, vice-president and treasurer - but now that we grew to 14 we require a real administrative staff with separated tasks (sales, printing, distribution, web, graphics, ...), all “within the family”. But we arerecruiting a person responsible for promotion outside our collective.

Decision-making processes:
Decisions are based on voting. We don’t have strict rules, but usually a large consensus is requested. Nonetheless, individual initiatives are welcome, especially in those tasks which require quickness.

Financing in 2008:
We usually don’t receive any subsidies and make our funds with the donation of the members of the collective and the selling of cd’s and gadgets like t-shirts. Every new release is an investment for further producing. We are applying for local funding when we organize meetings or small festivals. In 2007 our meeting of Italian collectives and independent labels was subsidized by Regione Emilia-Romagna and Comune di Massa Lombarda - Ravenna.
Label: Usually the deal is a co-production between the band and the label. We don’t have musical editions, so the band takes 100%
of the rights.
